Welcome to The Bass Guitarist
Hi and welcome! I have been playing the bass guitar for a while and am passionate about bass playing. My approach to the instrument is to provide a groove and good solid foundation so that it gives a concrete basis for the other players in the band to work from. My main influences are James Jamerson and Donald ''Duck'' Dunn. James Jamerson was the main Motown bassist from 1961 to 1983 and played on such hits as Marvin Gaye's 'What's going on and I Heard It Through The Grapevine' ( original version by Gladys Knight and The Pips) which really shows off his bass mastery of the groove. He has also completed bass lines for Stevie Wonder and The Tempatations to name but a few. Donald ''Duck'' Dunn played mainly for Booker T.and The M.G.'S. and many other famous artists such as Wilson Pickett and Ottis Reading and The Blues Brothers. A couple of the songs that he is well known for are Midnight Hour Soul Man and Who's Making Love.
I play very regularly for Le Grande ( a group based in Kent) and also find myself asked to do many deps for other bands. I thoroughly enjoy doing this as I like the challenge of learning new material and playing with a vast array of other musicians.
FOR THE BASS HEADS
My main choice of instrument is a Sadowsky Metro 5 which enables me to create the sound that I like best. I use Le Bella strings which are medium gauge. Amplification is by Eden and Eden Cabs which I find are robust and reliable with a quality sound and tone which many people have commented favourably on.
I buy all my gear and have it maintained by the guys at the Bass Gallery in London, you can check them out and some of my favourite sites on my
links page
Looking forward to more playing and more grooving next year!
